Following the cessation of this year’s free agency and trade period, North Melbourne has farewelled a trio of off-contract players in preparation for the 2024 campaign.

The Kangaroos told defender Aiden Bonar and forwards Kayne Turner and Jack Mahony on Friday that they would not be receiving offers for 2024 contracts.

The most seasoned player of the three, Turner played 130 AFL games during his time at Arden Street from 2014 to 2023, whereas Mahony (44 games) and Bonar (34 games) did not have as many senior playing opportunities.

After a disappointing experience in the GWS, the Roos signed Bonar in 2019, and while he didn’t exactly click during his four seasons as a Shinboner, they still had great expectations for him.

North Melbourne football boss Todd Viney expressed his thanks to the trio for their efforts and contributions as Roos.

“Kayne made a significant contribution across his almost 10 years at Arden Street, highlighted by his recent induction as a life member of the club and two seasons in the leadership group,” Viney said as part of a Friday afternoon club statement.

“He always had a team-first attitude, and we thank him for his dedication to North Melbourne.

“We also thank Jack and Aiden for all their efforts and their dedication to our program during their three years here.

“These decisions are never easy to make, and we wish all three men the best for their future endeavors.”
