AFL done deal trade news: Fremantle, St Kilda reach agreement on trade

The two sides haggled over the wingman’s trade price.

Liam Henry, a speedster for Fremantle, finalized his transfer to St Kilda after the Dockers and Saints reportedly reached a consensus on Monday.

Though Henry has long since formally nominated the Moorabbin club as his new home, the two clubs have struggled to work out Henry’s Victorian transition.

But with less than two days to go before the deadline, Fremantle consented to trade the uncontracted wingman to St Kilda in return for a future second-round pick, and the two teams also exchanged 2024 fourth-round picks.

Fremantle, who traded their own selection of the same value to Port Adelaide last week, now has a second-round pick in 2024 for their draft hand for the following year. In addition, the Dockers now own three first-round picks in 2024 as a result of recent agreements with the Power and Collingwood.

Although Henry played for Fremantle in 2023 as a wingman and in the midfield area of the field, the 22-year-old has the positional versatility to go forward and cause havoc near the goal face as well.

It will be interesting to watch his deployment at Moorabbin under Ross Lyon.

After completing their acquisition of Henry, St Kilda now has a number of other transactions to manage, such as the sale of defender Nick Coffield to the Western Bulldogs and the purchase of Paddy Dow, a wanted midfield player from Carlton.

After the free agency signing period concluded on Friday evening, the trade period is scheduled to cease on Wednesday, October 18 at 7:30 PM (AEDT).
